2nd Week of Prayer: Day 4 – An Eternal Perspective

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” – Matthew 6:19-21

DISCUSSION POINTS FOR YOUR FAMILY…

  • Make a list of things that are important to God.
  • What does it mean to “store up treasures in heaven?”
  • What are your treasures? Are they everlasting?
  • What would you be willing to “give up” to God?

PRAISE…
Spend time praising God for who He is

“Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” – Psalm 90:1-2

CONFESSION…
Allow God to search your heart, ask him to show you where your treasures are.

“For everything in the world – the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does – does not come from the Father but from the world.” – 1 John 2:16

THANKSGIVING…
Thank Him as a family for all He has done for you.

“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.” – Hebrews 12:28-29

PRAYER POINTS…

  • Pray we will store up for ourselves treasures in heaven.
“Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.” – 1 Timothy 6:18-19
  • Ask God to help us understand our part in the building project.
“…do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard and I have come in response to them.” Daniel 10:12
  • Pray that we will do the will of God.
“The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.” – 1 John 2:17
